Global City Project in Gurugram Gets Environment Clearance from MoEF

The HSIIDC’s Global City is coming up in Gurugram sectors 36B, 37A and 37B near recently opened Dwarka Expressway. The Global City will spread across around 1000 acres and will have residential zones, industrial clusters, commercial zones.

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has provided environment clearance to the Haryana government’s ambitious Global City project in Gurugram, people aware of the matter told Moneycontrol.

The project is being executed by the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC). The HSIIDC’s Global City is coming up in Gurugram sectors 36B, 37A and 37B near the recently opened Dwarka Expressway. The Global City will spread across around 1000 acres and will have residential zones, industrial clusters, commercial zones.

“The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has granted much required environmental clearance to the Global City project. The move will pave the way for seamless growth of the project and also facilitate executing work on the ground at a faster pace. A public notice in connection with environmental clearance to the project has also been published by HSIIDC,” an official of the HSIIDC said.

He said the move will also help in associating more investors and development partners with the Global City project.

Officials said that under phase-1 of Global City, the Haryana government has also started work on developing the infrastructure facilities in the area earmarked for the project. The Global City project was conceived in 2019 and the tender for the first phase was awarded in September 2023.

Under phase 1, roads, electricity, water supply, and other infrastructure will be created on 587 acres by December 2026 at a tentative expenditure of Rs 940 crore, the official said. The work will include the construction of 13-km of internal roads, a 26-km-long storm water drain network, around 12-km potable water network, a 12-km recycled water pipeline, landscape across 82 acres, and a 10km utility tunnel, officials said.

Facilities the Global City will offer

According to officials, one of the USPs of the Global City will be a unique “utility tunnel” beneath the roads. This tunnel will be used for all types of utilities, including water, telecom, and electricity lines. With such a tunnel in place, there will be no need for road digging to attend to faults or upgrade the utility network in the future, they said.

The Global City will have dedicated pathways for walkers and cyclists. Various modes of public transport, such as the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) and the Gurugram-Bawal metro corridor are likely to pass through the city.

Interstate and intercity bus terminals will be developed near the township, which will boost connectivity in the region. It will have 60-metre-wide arterial roads and 45-metre-wide sub-arterial roads.

Officials said that Global City is planned as a self-sufficient township with a focus on modern technology and future-oriented industries, low carbon green infrastructure, ease of living, skilling of people, and employment generation.
