Delhi-Mumbai Expressway to Be Ready by October 2025 Nitin Gadkari

The completion schedule for Delhi-Mumbai Expressway has been revised to October, 2025 with 82% or 1136 km of the total 1386 km completed, the minister of road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari said in response to a question in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

The corridor, which provides connectivity to major economic centers within Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra, will help reduce distance from Delhi to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) by about 180 km and reduce travel time by up to 50% to connected destinations, the minister said.

Responding to a question on vehicle recall, the minister said 0.71 million motor vehicles have been recalled in 2024 till July 25, second highest since 2021 when the number of vehicles recalled stood at 1.33 million.

As per the response, 0.68 million two-wheelers were recalled in the current year till July 25 while 27,607 passenger cars were recalled. The data shows 0.28 million vehicles were recalled in 2022 and another 0.28 million in 2023.

Total vehicles recalled in the country since 2021 stood at 2.62 million, the minister said citing the data maintained by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), under its voluntary recall code of SIAM, due to safety defects.

The length of national highways in the country has increased by 1.6 times from 91,287 km in March, 2014 to 1,46,126 km at present with the government constructing 98,021 km of NHs at an expenditure of Rs 14.55 lakh crore since April, 2014.

Budgetary allocation of the ministry has increased from about Rs 31,130 crore in 2013-14 to about Rs 2,84,000 crore in 2024-25, the ministry said in response to a third question in the Rajya Sabha.
