Sec 99-115 Link Road to be Revamped in a Year

The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has floated tenders to upgrade the 10.4km-long stretch of road that connects sectors 99 and 115.

According to officials, the project was discussed in the last authority meet of the GMDA in December last year, and approval was given for the upgradation of the road that will cost Rs 48 crore approximately and take about 12 months to complete.

The road is a key stretch in the city that runs from outer Sector 99 to the dividing road between sectors 114 and 115. It is located close to the Delhi-Gurgaon border and also covers the dividing road of sectors 108 and 109. It has seven major and five minor junctions.

“As part of this project, we will revamp the existing carriageway, which currently is in a very poor condition. We will undertake overlay treatment and strengthen the road. The traffic pattern, as of now, involves a lot of heavy vehicles, so we will upgrade the road to handle that,” said a senior GMDA official.

“In addition, footpaths and drains will be constructed and junctions will be improved. If slip roads are needed anywhere, those will also be constructed and road safety furniture will be installed,” the official, added.

The road was originally constructed by the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) in 2014, and was transferred to the GMDA in 2018. Since it opened for traffic, however, no periodic repairs have been carried out on it, the GMDA officials, said.

This road also sees movement of a high number of heavy vehicles, more so, after construction commenced on the Dwarka Expressway, with traffic from there being diverted here.

With the road not having the capacity to handle this load, its condition has deteriorated, leading to the need for the revamp.

Studies conducted before planning this project, officials said, have revealed that the stretch sees a volume count of 16,514 passenger car units and an average of 3,030 commercial vehicles per day, with the volume of traffic expected to increase “many fold” in the near future.

“As of now, we have invited the tender for the project and based on the response that we get, we will carry out the technical and financial evaluations of the bidders over the next two months. If everything goes according to plan, once the project is allotted to a bidder, it should take 12 months for completion. We hope that by mid-2023, we will be able to upgrade this stretch of the road,” added the official quoted above.
